While the country was still trying to come to terms with the new conditions of the still on going pandemic last year, the film industry lost Irrfan Khan to a colon infection caused due to the complications of his neuroendocrine tumour. The actor was 54 when he breathed his last and today marks his first death anniversary. Sutapa Sikdar says losing Irrfan has taught her how to be more alert and independent.
While her heart cries for their sons, she says that it’s difficult to see Babil and Ayaan miss their father. Sutapa lost her father when she was 45 while Babil and Ayaan had to lose theirs at the age of 22 and 17 respectively. Sutapa further said that her house still has Irrfan’s essence in it and those that visit their place do not feel like he is no more. Irrfan insisted on reflecting upon every action and that has helped Sutapa deal with his loss. She keeps reminding herself not to let smaller matters worry her because if Irrfan can fight a life-threatening disease, she can manage things too.
Talking about her sons, she said that Ayaan is an introvert and is completely opposite of Babil so she has to be more careful of how she acts him. She says she cannot be vulnerable in front of Ayaan because he needs her more than she needs him. While Babil is planning to walk on Irrfan Khan’s footsteps, she says that if he becomes dedicated like Irrfan, she can see a bright future for him. Sutapa Sikdar said that she has come emotionally closer to her sons after Irrfan’s demise as the emotions of losing a partner and a father cannot overlap each other.
