"2 Roti dete hai aur 20 photo khitchwate hai" - Annu Kapoor on people who are helping and who are not during the tough times of pandemic
Veteran actor Annu Kapoor is best known for his roles in Mr. India, Vicky Donor (2012) and Jolly LLB 2 (2017). He received the Filmfare award as well as National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for Vicky Donor. Recently, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Annu Kapoor talks about the COVID-19 pandemic. He also talks about the way celebrities are helping the needy. He says when you do charity, you shouldn't do its publicity.
Anu Kapoor said " it would be good that the people who are trying their level best to help with honesty and have the audacity to work for the people should be encouraged and appreciated. The people who are not able to do it, I won't blame them completely, they might have their own reasons. But, the ones who are doing, they have my salute and they need to be respected and appreciated very much. Forget about the ones who are doing it. The 4-5 people you named are really doing a great job and I salute them for it. Leaving aside negative, because negativity is all around the corner. Let's not talk about if Mr X or Mrs X hasn't done it. It's alright, leave them aside. There could be an age balance also right. So, the people who have done, we must value them, we must respect them and if have really done genuinely, it's a really big deal. For the same, they must be awarded by the government of India."
He further went on and criticised the ones who are helping for the fame and wrote "I talk to my Delhi friends and also talk in various places, so in this time we Indians have that national character that '2 roti deke yaha 20 photo khichwane wale bahut hai'. I and you cannot deny this thing that they give 2 roti and click 20 photographs out of it. This issue was raised last year as well and there were many WhatsApp messages of the same. Don't do this man. My dear Walid Sahab used to say If your left hand gives something to anyone, so your right hand shouldn't be even aware of it. This is what true service is.”
"Today, in our country even the children who need anything from food to oxygen cylinders, then in the true sense for help, look up to Nishant Sahab and Gurudwaras. The sacrifices we Sikhs have made, that was all intended for the purpose of service. The passion for service doesn't bother us to see if the person is from any religion, any caste or any background. We are here to offer service and we don't want to be clicked by the cameras. This is what is the basic doctrine of Sikhism. That's the reason why everybody looks up to Nishant Sahab because you won't get 2 rotis, you'll be served a complete filling meal. No one will capture your photograph in the same." The actor added later.
