EXCLUSIVE: Putting India on the global map, Shabinaa Khan celebrates her 31st year in Bollywood with Shameless
After backing a volley of blockbusters, creative powerhouse Shabinaa Khan has placed her bets on a unique concept with Keith Gomes's short film Shameless as she celebrates her 31st year in Bollywood. Championing the cause of kindness, the upcoming film sheds light on the sense of disorientation that has grappled a few city dwellers amongst us. What makes the venture a matter of pride for India is that it is all set to compete on the biggest forum in the world – as India’s eligible entry at the 93rd Oscars in 2021. The 15 minuter short film will be a worthy contender in the Live – Action Short Film category.
While pursuing a career in fashion for 25 years, Shabinaa nurtured the wish of telling stories through cinema. Soon enough, she worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali as a costume designer for Khamoshi and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Edging close to her dream, she then assisted him in producing and directing his 2005 masterpiece Black. In 2012, she pieced together her maiden film, an Akshay Kumar-starrer titled Rowdy Rathore for which Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prabhu Deva got on board as producer and director respectively. The film went on to become a blockbuster and went down in history as one of the highest-grossing Indian films. The same fate met her next Akshay Kumar-starrer Gabbar Is Back. Khan made a huge splash in the content space by bankrolling Laxmii in 2020. In the 31st year of her career in Bollywood, she now explores the independent cinema scene with Shameless.
The producer says, "I am blessed to be this close to an Oscar consideration through Shameless. The concept of kindness, empathy and compassion appealed to me. As soon as the writer-director pitched it to me I was gripped and I thought this story needs to be told. As a producer, fresh ideas and concepts excite me and Shameless gave me the opportunity to tap a different arena of filmmaking."
Shameless stars Sayani Gupta, Hussain Dalal and Rishabh Kapoor. It is directed by Keith Gomes, presented by Shabinaa Khan, produced by Ashley Gomes, Keith Gomes and National Award-winner Sandeep Kamal, co-produced by Girish ‘Bobby’ Talwar, with production design by Suresh Selvarajan and with sound by Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty (Slumdog Millionaire).
